Friendly reminder that Lúthien was the most beautiful elven woman to walk Middle Earth. When Beren, the love of her life died, she died of a broken heart and when she went to the Halls of Mandos (a little like Heaven’s waiting room), she sang of her mourning, knowing that as a mortal who had died, she would never see Beren again. Her song so moved the Valar who presides over the Halls that she convinced him to go to Eru Ilúvatar himself (basically God) on her behalf.
She was then given two choices: she could live with the Valar in bliss forever as reward for all that she had done, or she could be brought back to life with Beren, on the condition that they would both be mortal and die the death of Men. She chose the latter.
